Just to give an idea of what it can be like when picking up a broken down car on the side of the Trans-Canada highway. In BC we have a law called "Slow Down Move Over", which requires passing motorists to move over a lane when driving by emergency vehicles with lights activated (tow trucks included), and if that is not possible then to slow down to 70km/h (if the limit is 80 or higher) or slow to 40km/h if the limit is less than 80. In this stretch the posted limit is 100km/h,. so passing cars are required by law to slow to 70 if they are in the lane next to where I am working.
